PKRA Germany - Day 5
What a day!!
We did two races in light onshore winds with lots of Fog. It was very hard to see the marks around the course. I had a some bad luck and dropped my kite on the finishing leg and ended up with a 19th place. In the Second race, everything went ok and I made no big mistakes and finished 11th.
The Media meeting was very intersesting and a lot of good lessons were lernt by the riders on what the PKRA offers them in media exposure.
What followed in the IKA meeting was a witchhunt against the Head of the IKA Markus Schwendtner. The freestyle riders were out to get him. The very 1st topic of discussion started was on how to vote him off his position. To me this shows a lot of disrespect from these young riders who see themselves as the only representatives of the sport.
What scared my was the inability of some key riders to listen. Markus answered the questions that were given to him honestly, but kept being battered with "you are not answering my questions" etc.
The Freestyle riders in the PKRA seem to have a very skewed and limited view on the sport. If you look at the sport as a whole, then the IKA is doing good things. No one is perfect and mistaked have been made, but on a wholea lot of good has come from the IKA and even if a few elitist riders cannot see it, a lot of us other riders can.
I think if the attitude of the PKRA Freestyle Riders does not change, it will lead to the demise of the Tour, as sponsors will get tired of the small minded and short term thinking of these kids.
As a racer, I feel that we do not need the PKRA Tour and have never felt welcome in the Tour. We just fill the space and put on a show when the conditions are not good enough for the Freestylers. We get less prize money, even though we have higher costs and spend more time on the water during competitions.
We do not need to be part of the PKRA Tour. With the Worlds, North and South American Continentals and European Championships we already have more race stops than the PKRA. Add to that the KTE and KTA tours and we have a lot more comps to go to than the 3 Races the PKRA offers us.
